With refs like these...

Who needs to even play?

At first, it seemed upsetting, but not completely terrible.

Then it seemed really bad, but maybe it's just the world's against us type issues.

Now it's official: the refs are completely rooning this World Cup.

I didn't disagree with the refs needing to buckle down a little more and call some of these penalties. But they're calling hair-thin fouls. There's a fine line between rough play and fouls, and, granted, they'll get a few they shouldn't call wrong, but this many? And worse, at critical junctures in the game? They need to be more blatant.

The foul against the US in the Ghana match? The Australia call to end the game? Both bogus. And that Portugal-Netherlands match? Even the FIFA president was upset about it. So FIFA, whatcha gonna do? The world is watching and these refs are making all results almost illegitimate. What now?

One more article from across the pond.

It's a shame you posted this before the phantom foul that gave the Big Blue Prom Queens a FREAKING PENALTY KICK IN THE 93RD FREAKING MINUTE today against a superior Australian side.

Go watch the replays somewhere. I'm sure by now someone has posted the video of the game, if not the deciding 'foul'. If you can't find it, I'll sum up - Italian player with the ball goes into the Aussie penalty area, Aussie player slides in for a tackle, but misses both ball and Italian player by 3 feet. Italian player then trips over a prone, non-moving Aussie player, and hits the turf like he's been shot. Penalty awarded, penalty made, absolutely unimpressive Italian side through to face what I hope is their end against either the Swiss or the Ukranians...

Oh, it's included. "World Cup" link on the final line of the introduction.

This sounds like the Rams' old fall down and hope for pass intereference routine. Issac Bruce and Torry Holt did that better than any WR tandem that ever existed. If anyone who voted on academy awards actually watched football, I image some honoraries would've been thrown their way.
