Three more years! Three more years!

The AJC is reporting the Falcons have voided Coach Mora's final three years and replaced it with a new contract guaranteeing his coaching position for three more years. The old contract had the final two years (beginning in fall 2007) as voidable.

A raise is included but the amount of this new contract wasn't disclosed.

The Falcons have spent the past week acquiring players to add to a youthful nucleus in an effort to remain competitive for years.

Friday, the team made sure coach Jim Mora will be along for the ride.

The Falcons guaranteed Mora's contract for the next three seasons, the team confirmed.

Though Mora signed a five-year, $7.5 million deal when hired to his first head-coaching job in 2004, the final two seasons were option years, where the Falcons could have terminated his contract without any financial liability.

The team confirmed it voided the final three years of his existing contract and awarded him a new pact with an undisclosed raise. It is not known if any of his assistant coaches had their contracts extended or re-worked.

Mora has guided the Falcons to a 20-14 record with an appearance in the NFC championship game in 2004. The defensive-minded son of a longtime NFL coach has established a strong rapport with players and management, but has had a handful of emotional outbursts —mainly with the media — that have sparked criticism.
